Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD)
Chronic facial and neck pain, along with frequent headaches, are common issues for many Americans, often linked to Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD). The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) play a crucial role in connecting the lower jawbone to the skull and are constantly active during everyday activities such as talking, chewing, swallowing, and yawning. Any discomfort in these joints can restrict jaw movement and cause limitations.

Symptoms of TMD include:
- Jaw pain.
- There could be discomfort, ringing, or a feeling of fullness in the ears.
- Frequent headaches or neck pain are common occurrences.
- When the jaw moves, you may hear a clicking or popping sound.
- Swelling is present on the sides of the face.
- Muscle spasms are present in the jaw region.
- The positioning of the upper and lower teeth has shifted.
- My jaw is locked or I have limited mouth opening.

If you have any of these symptoms, make sure to inform your doctor. Your dentist can evaluate and create a personalized treatment plan for TMD. Also, there are simple steps you can take at home or at work to prevent TMD from worsening or occurring in the first place.
Don't forget to keep your lips together and teeth apart to relax your face.
Please refrain from grinding your teeth.
Please refrain from constantly chewing gum.
Please avoid placing the phone receiver between your head and shoulder. Instead, use a headset or hold the receiver in your hand.
Remember to chew your food completely on both sides of your mouth.
Please refrain from placing your chin on your hand while sitting.
