What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed in the jawbone to act as artificial “tooth roots,” securely supporting a new tooth, bridge, or denture. Each implant is finished with a dental crown, creating a natural-looking, fully functional chewing surface to restore the appearance and feel of the missing tooth. Dental implants are often the preferred solution for tooth loss because they:
- Look Natural – Nobody wants a replacement tooth that stands out for the wrong reasons. Dental implants are custom-matched to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, creating a confident, authentic smile.
- Feel Comfortable – Comfort is key when it comes to tooth replacement. Once healed, dental implants provide a secure, pain-free solution that allows you to enjoy all your favorite foods without discomfort or irritation.
- Are Low Maintenance – Unlike dentures or removable bridges, dental implants are permanent, so there’s no slipping or special care required. Just brush and floss as you would with natural teeth.
- Support Oral Health – Dental implants integrate naturally into your smile, reducing risks associated with bone loss, gum irritation, periodontal disease, and tooth decay that can come with bulkier dental appliances.
- Offer Long-Lasting Durability – Designed to last a lifetime, dental implants stand out as the only tooth replacement option with the potential for true permanence.
Types of Dental Implants
Single Dental Implant
If you've lost a single tooth due to decay or injury, a single dental implant can restore both your smile and confidence. This titanium implant, paired with a natural-looking crown, replaces the root and surface of your lost tooth seamlessly. With a dental implant, you can smile, speak, and enjoy all your favorite foods just like you would with a natural tooth.
Implant-Retained Dentures
Implant-retained dentures, or "overdentures," can significantly improve quality of life for many patients. Many patients find relief from the discomfort and instability of traditional dentures with removable “snap-in” dentures that are securely anchored using dental implants.
All-on-4 Dental Implants
With All-on-4 dental implants, your implants are securely anchored to a full-arch prosthesis, allowing you to enjoy the function and feel of new teeth immediately. This permanent, non-removable solution provides stability and confidence from day one.
Why Would I Need Dental Implants?
Are you missing one or more teeth? Even with regular brushing, flossing, and preventive checkups, everyday wear and tear can sometimes affect our natural smiles over time. Tooth loss can happen due to various reasons, including accidents, illness, stress, aging, or decay. If you’ve lost a tooth or multiple teeth, dental implants offer an effective solution to repair your oral health and renew your confidence.

01.
The Dental Implant Process
The implant process begins with a consultation and digital imaging to confirm you’re a good candidate. Next, a small titanium post is placed in the jawbone, where it gradually bonds over a few months to create a strong foundation. Once healed, we attach a custom abutment and crown designed to match your bite and smile. Throughout each step, our team keeps you comfortable and informed.
For implant-retained dentures, several small titanium implants are placed in the jaw and allowed time to heal and bond with the bone. Once healed, a custom denture is securely attached to the implants, providing added stability, improved chewing, and a more confident smile.
For All-on-4 implants, four strategically placed implants support a complete set of fixed teeth, providing stability and comfort. The implants are angled to avoid the sinuses, thereby eliminating the need for bone grafts and reducing the healing time. Once healed, your final teeth will be crafted from zirconia, a stronger and more lifelike material than acrylic. Zirconia is also more hygienic, stain-resistant, and provides a longer lifespan and superior aesthetics compared to acrylic/titanium hybrid bridges.

Next Steps
After your dental implants are placed, the next phase focuses on healing and establishing a strong foundation for your new smile.
Over the next several weeks, the implant will naturally fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. During this time, you may have a follow-up visit to check on your healing, adjust your bite if necessary, and ensure everything feels comfortable.
Once stabilized and healed, we’ll place a custom abutment and your final crown, bridge, or denture (depending on the type of implant treatment). We’ll also review home-care tips so your implant stays healthy for years.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What makes dental implants different from other tooth replacements?
-
Who is a good candidate for dental implants?
Most patients, including those who have been previously informed they lack sufficient bone for dental implants, can undergo this procedure. To avoid the sinuses and utilize the strongest bone, our doctors will employ a combination of straight and angled implants. This technique typically eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming sinus augmentation bone grafts. During your complimentary consultation, your doctor will perform a thorough assessment to determine if All-On-4 is the right option for you.
-
How do dental implants help support long-term oral health?
Implants prevent bone loss, keep nearby teeth stable, and help preserve the natural shape of your face and jaw.
